Professor Greg Craven AO

Professor Greg Craven AO, a lawyer and academic, commenced as Vice-Chancellor of the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in February 2008. 

Prior to his appointment at ACU, Professor Craven served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategy & Planning) at Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia. He also held the position of Professor of Government and Constitutional Law, having previously served as Executive Director of the John Curtin Institute of Public Policy. 

Professor Craven was Foundation Dean and Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame Australia and Reader in Law at the University of Melbourne. Professor Craven served as Crown Counsel to the Victorian Government from 1992 to 1995.

Professor Craven is Deputy Chairman of The Council of Australian Governments (COAG), Vice-President of the Australian Higher Education Industrial Association (AHEIA) Executive Committee and a Member of the Interim National Catholic Education Commission. 

Professor Craven is a Board member of Universities Australia and Chair of the Universities Australia Standing Committee on the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA). Universities Australia is the peak body representing Australian universities.

Professor Craven represents Universities Australia as a member of the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education's (DIISRTE) National Advisory Group on Higher Education Data and Information.

An expert in public law, Professor Craven has published numerous journal articles and four books, including Conversations with the Constitution (University of New South Wales Press, 2004).  A regular contributor to public debate, Professor Craven is also a columnist for The Australian.
