Stephen Elder OAM
Stephen Elder has enjoyed a distinguished career in both Government and education. Mr Elder was a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1988 to 1999 in the Seat of Ballarat North and Ripon. During this time Mr Elder occupied the role of Parliamentary Secretary for Education and was responsible for the Government’s reform agenda in Education from 1988 to 1999.
Mr Elder has also contributed to education at the Federal Government level working for the then Minister for Education, Dr David Kemp as his Senior Advisor.
Mr Elder is currently Executive Director of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of Melbourne, having assumed the role in 2006 and is responsible for the third largest Catholic education system in the world with approximately330 schools.
Mr Elder is on the Senate of Australian Catholic University, a Director of Catholic Network Australia, a Director of the Board of Management of Church Resources, a Member of the Board of Catholic Development Fund, Executive Director of the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria, a member of the National Catholic Education Commission, Secretary of Catholic Capital Grants, as well as numerous other roles and positions involved in Catholic education.
Mr Elder is also a Director of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership which provides professional leadership for the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments in promoting excellence in the profession of teaching and school leadership. In October 2011 he was also appointed to the Board of the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority.
